Ancient City of Petra, Jordan

The Middle East is one of the world's most fascinating and mystical travel destinations. Over the centuries this extraordinary location has played host to some of the most significant civilisations of antiquity, a historic land where the three great monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam - were born. Centuries later, left behind is an astonishing open-air museum of ancient cities and historic buildings, the stones of which still resonate with the sounds of the faithful.
The Middle East is home to some of the world's most significant cities - Jerusalem, Cairo and Petra marking especially the passage of centuries in a region where the ancient world lives and breathes. Throughout my travels, I found warm and friendly people, their gracious welcomes and boundless hospitality often speaking of an altogether more civilised age. It was soon clear there were plenty of stories beyond the headlines which we are all so used to reading.
Outside the cities, the region boasts some really spellbinding landscapes, from the un-rivalled seas of sand dunes of Egypt's deserts to the unique surroundings of Israel's Dead Sea, the botanical gardens of the Negev's kibbutzim or the dramatic and unforgettable setting of the Ancient city of Petra.
